I am devastated to learn about the shooting in Midtown and am keeping the victims, their families, and all those affected in my thoughts. Grateful to the first responders who quickly and bravely answered the call this evening.

My heart breaks for Officer Didarul Islam's wife, family, and Bengali community. This horrific mass shooting with a semi-automatic assault weapon is yet another tragic reminder that the US must do more to end senseless gun violence.

I am also thinking of the other victims, including Wesley LePatner—a Jewish community leader and UJA-Federation of New York board member. My prayers are with their families. May their memories be a blessing. jta.org/2025/07/29/uni…
