Yesterday, Uni Heidelberg had 8 running ERC AdG grants - today, it has 13!!! Congratulations to Michael Platten 🇪🇺, Rohini Kuner, Hannah Monyer, Herta Flor and Andreas Dreuw on being successful in this round of the annual competition.

Science and sailing - the best combo ever - a leisurely sunny spring Sunday afternoon on the Charles River with my Boston graduate student daughter in between the ISHSR meeting in Chicago (ishsr.net) and a visit of the MDI Biological Lab in Maine - life could not be better!

Great success of Uni Heidelberg in the DFG public | @[email protected] CRC competition: 2 new CRCs (Cellular Membranes; Homelands), 2 CRC renewals (Hepatitis Virus Infections; Quantum Systems), and 2 additional CRC participations (Aggression; Signal Transmission). Adds up to more than 50 Mio. €!

60 year anniversary of the ⁦DKFZ⁩ in Heidelberg- what a party!

Fascinating study in nature reporting longevity effects of IL11 (nature.com/articles/s4158…). Interesting: IL11 is not age-regulated in human plasma proteome database (twc-stanford.shinyapps.io/aging_plasma_p…). Still: Many questions including vascular involvement in observed phenotypes?

The program of this year's Kloster Seeon meeting "Angioscience" has just been published at vwfb.de/start/program. The Chairs PotenteLab and Ondine Cleaver 🇺🇦 have put together a spectacular program. Looking forward to it with great excitement. Will be a blast!

Congratulations to all successful 2024 European Research Council (ERC) starting grantees! EVBO: We need to do better - 15 cancer grants, 2 cardiac grants, ZERO vascular grant (if I did not accidentally miss anybody)! That's shocking - we need to MUCH better prepare our young talent!

German @ERC StG 24 statistics: 98 of 494 (20%) - pretty cool! Of these, MPG (16) and Helmholtz (12) are leading. Yet, among universities, there is also hierarchy: TUM: 7, LMU: 6, BN: 6, TÜ: 5, DA: 4. Looks like some unis better nurture and develop their young talent than others.
