SBS are core participants in UK Covid-19 Inquiry. Today, we spoke to the media alongside Scottish Covid Bereaved. Dr Hannana Siddiqui spoke about our endeavour to highlight the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on Black, minoritised & migrant women who fell through the cracks 👇🏾.
We have been leading a campaign to reform immigration law for victims of abuse for over 30 yrs & will not stop unless the rights of all victims are recognised regardless of their immigration status. The Victims Bill is a significant step in this direction. #SupportMigrantVictims
🎙Catch Dr Hannana Siddiqui in conversation with Nicola Brook and Lorelei King❤ in the latest episode of Broudie Jackson Canter’ #CovidInquiry podcast. In it, she discusses lack of govt preparedness and its implications for victims of abuse.

Dr Hannana Siddiqui notes that the combined model of DDVC and DVILR is the best in the world as there is no evidence of misuse in it and it encourages victims to come forward by providing them both status and support.

SBS and Solace Women's Aid have also highlighted this through our submissions on the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on Black, minoritized and migrant victims of abuse. We demand accountability and urgent change. 2/2
We second PILC. Evidence at the UK Covid-19 Inquiry yesterday is deeply revealing about the implications of lack of diversity in govt decision making for the vulnerable and its failure to consider intersectionality as a core tenet. 1/2
Reports that the CEO of Southall Black Sisters was racially attacked last week, as a police officer stood by, should concern us all.
We need urgent action to address racism in the Met.
My thoughts are with Selma as she copes with the trauma of this terrible attack.
In Dec 2022, Dr Hannana Siddiqui from SBS gave evidence oral evidence to the Women & Equalities Committee calling for Banaz's law 👇
A year ago, SBS launched No Safe Place by Bekhal Mahmod and Dr Hannana Siddiqui in memory of Banaz Mahmod & other victims of honour based abuse. This #DayofMemory , we call for Banaz's Law to prevent the use of cultural and religious defences for so called 'honour killings' and VAWG
'Migrant victims should be central to the Victims' Code, the definition of victim and throughout the bill. It's the only way that we could make sure that all victims are provided for by this bill.' Dr Hannana Siddiqui #IncludeMigrantVictimsInTheVictimsBill
As the committee stage of the Victims & Prisoners Bill kicks off, we're campaigning for the bill to include migrant victims. Hear from Dr Hannana Siddiqui who gave oral evidence today on the need to provide support & status to migrant victims👇 #IncludeMigrantVictimsInTheVictimsBill
