Postdoc job alert! Want to understand how we can predict El Nino months, or even years, in advance? Join us in @OxfordAOPP to work on interpretable machine learning for climate, in collaboration with David John Gagne and Antje Weisheimer. my.corehr.com/pls/uoxrecruit…

#MeetOurPartners! At University of Oxford, we do transformative research into understanding our changing #climate. Physics is key to solving this problem, and research in @OxfordAOPP, part of Department of Physics at University of Oxford, focuses on the physical processes in the atmosphere, oceans, and cryosphere.🧵

One of @OxfordAOPP ‘s contributions to #EERIEproject is assessing how an eddying ocean affects Euro-Atlantic #weather regimes. For example, how does a well resolved #GulfStream alter the probabilities p and q of persisting in the positive and negative phases of the NAO? ⏩

Another focus of @OxfordAOPP ‘s contribution is solving key challenges in ultra-high-resolution climate modelling using #MachineLearning. This includes using ML approaches such as Generative Adversarial Networks to emulate expensive model components and so speed up simulations.⏩

@OxfordAOPP will also collaborate with PBL English, to use Machine Learning tools to bridge the gap between #EERIEproject's detailed and complex simulations and the idealised Integrated Assessment Models used to assist with decision making for climate policy. ⏩

Weather forecasting: to rain or not to rain? How about honesty: 70% risk of rain today, 20% tomorrow. Best wait for that BBQ #ShareMyThesis

The weather (like elections) is hard to predict. Check out OxfordSparks podcast where I say what we can do about it ow.ly/ZqV9305YkeF x.com/OxfordSparks/s…
