Our FOE Pre-Elections summit is underway in Gaborone, Botswana where close to 100 delegates are gathered to discuss the importance of FOE and ATI during the election period.

What are the key challenges faced by journalists and civil society organizations in Botswana when seeking information about elections?

How does Botswana's approach to transparency and information disclosure ecosystem compare to other African countries? What lessons can be learned from successful transparency initiatives elsewhere?

A panel of politicians discussing social media disinformation challenges during their campaigns includes Mr. Boniface Bashi Blanca Mabeo (Botswana Congress Party), Mrs. Kebuang Nono Kgafela Mokoka (Umbrella for Democratic Change), and Mr. Bonang Bakang Kolobe (BMD).

We have kicked off day 2 of our Freedom of Expression Pre-Elections Summit in Botswana with parallel sessions for media and civil society,focusing on strategies for promoting freedom of expression initiatives in Botswana.

Plenary session: Commitment to Upholding Freedom of Expression in Elections and Democracy. Delegates are now discussing a collaborative strategy towards implementing their action plans.

On the 24th and 25th of June, the Campaign for Free Expression, alongside their partners, convened in Gaborone for the Pre-Election Summit—an essential event ahead of the Botswana elections.
