Our Volunteers had a great training day at the @LincsArchives yesterday, with a fantastic workshop on research skills led by Susan Payne. They even went behind the scenes to see documents from the 16th century up to the present day all relating to the Greyfriars building!

The first part of our plans for Greyfriars, is reinstating an older doorway to the building from street level in a new ‘green corridor’ Why? Provides a highly visible entrance. It will made of a transparent material to improve general access & inclusion It will look pretty!

Volunteers photographed & documented over 724 different examples of historic graffiti on both floors of the building. This is a wall-carved game board. On the left is a small ‘merels’ board, a 3-Mens-Morris. On the nearside is an eroding gameboard graffiti known as Fox & Geese!

As we come to the end of our first phase of the project, we welcomed the Spirit of Sutterby group for a walking talk with Mark Gardiner, Building Archaeologist & part of the project team. He talked us through how to decipher architecture in evidence & the medieval phases.
