All social media oligopolists, not just TikTok, should open their recommendation algorithms to scrutiny. They are programming our minds and our societies.

“Artists” calling for censorship don’t know what art is. “Scientists” citing consensus don’t know what science is. “Teachers” indoctrinating students don’t know what teaching is. “Journalists” parroting propaganda don’t know what reporting is. Programming us all day long.

When a scientist says what Jon Stewart says here before Jon Stewart says it, they can be thrown off Twitter or throttled for racism…but when Jon Stewart says it it’s mainstream?! Remember this the next time we are told an inconvenient voice is a crank. x.com/dudeyestotally…

I've got an idea. I'll say what I think and why. If you disagree, you say what you think and why. I'll consider your arguments and respond to you. You consider mine and respond to me. I won't bully or try to silence you. You won't bully or try to silence me. We'll call it ....

Part of the reason why the public has lost so much trust in science is because experts have made claims with so much certainty and refused to apologize or make amends when those claims turn out to be wrong. Most, if not all, research begins with acknowledging uncertainty.

No one familiar with the history of World War II can be that surprised by what the Russians did in Bucha. The barbarism of the Red Army is omitted from the history American kids learn. The Russians were allies, and thus "the good guys." But this is part of a long tradition.

The people who are creating shortages of fertilizer, natural gas, & electricity call themselves “environmentalists,” but by increasing the use of wood, coal, & land, they are causing far more harm to the environment than any fossil fuel company.

1/ How to lie with statistics advanced edition... This meta-study claims to overturn the long established pattern that moderate drinkers have lower mortality than abstainers. After adjusting for confounders there was "no significant reduction in mortality". Very misleading...

It's true that Congress investigating plagiarism at Harvard is a waste of time. What Congress should do instead is apply a much higher tax rate to private college endowments.

Charlie Munger: “You don't want to be such an absolute purist for free trade. I'm almost a purist, but not quite. But I wouldn't want the entire steel industry of the United States to move offshore.”
