As of today, we are now 6 full-time engineers working on Ladybird! 🤯🐞 I'm so grateful to all of our sponsors, both large and small, for making this possible! Feels like I'm living in a dream sometimes. Truly. 🌠

Eron Wolf sits down with Andreas Kling to talk about the Ladybird Browser, to which we recently gave a grant of $200k. Enjoy!

My first days of Ladybird development! Tweakers.net is a Dutch tech site that exhibited some visual glitches around the edges of SVGs, such as in the logo. Turns out, we were assuming all bitmaps used unpremultiplied alpha. Fixed - it looks so much nicer now!

Our very own website at ladybird.org had some pretty big icons in Ladybird... turns out, CSS flex is pretty hard to get right when handling elements with intrinsic sizes such as images or SVGs. Fixed!

After Andreas Kling implemented canvas drawing using Skia for Ladybird, we still had some remaining (un)premultiplied alpha blending artifacts - as can be seen at the edges of this image. Added a very visually distinct test to prevent this from regressing! 🤓

Just reviewed the numbers: Ladybird has raised around $325,000 in new donations since our nonprofit launch! This is absolutely incredible and gives us the fuel to push even harder toward our alpha release in 2026. 🐞🚀 Huge thanks to everyone—individuals & companies—who

All input fields keep track of their own selection state, on top of the document's selection and cursor position. Ladybird is soon going to support selection state properties, the "select" event and that good old (and sometimes annoying) "select() on focus"!

It was long due, but Ladybird learned how to decode and play ogg/vorbis streams! As a somewhat intended side effect, it makes Dominic Szablewski's Biolab load again 🧪

We are thrilled to announce that Guillermo Rauch is sponsoring Ladybird with a generous donation of $50,000! 🙌 Guillermo is a powerhouse who has been building on the open web for years. We're incredibly grateful for his support and the boost it gives to our mission. Thank you! 🖤

There are few projects as ambitious as Ladybird and few stories as outstanding as Andreas Kling’s. Ladybird is a brand-new, independent browser engine backed by a non-profit. It’s evolving rapidly and I believe it will be a bastion of freedom for the web.

We've introduced a $1,000 sponsor tier and are happy to welcome the following new sponsors: - optimising.com.au - broadbandmap.com - Guillaume Knispel - Mark Goetz We thank them all for supporting our cause to build an independent browser for the open web! 🙌

You'd expect a browser to be able to play most audio formats out there. So by doing a bit of plumbing to get libavformat and libavcodec to decode the audio, Ladybird is now able to do so! Newly supported are AAC, Opus, some variants of MP3 and many more.
