SwissTable, a high-performance open-addressing hash map originally developed by Google, is becoming more popular in the industry. First, Rust adopted it for its HashMap type. Then Go started using a custom version of SwissTable for its map type. Now, Valkey (a Redis fork) has

Introducing M²RNN: Non-Linear RNNs with Matrix-Valued States for Scalable Language Modeling We bring back non-linear recurrence to language modeling and show it's been held back by small state sizes, not by non-linearity itself. 📄 Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2603.14360 💻 Code:

No amount of Postgres config can fix a slow disk. Benchmark results across several server + disk combinations for Pg 17 and Pg 18 (multiple configs). - Local disk (i7i NVMe) is unmatched. - io2 performs well, but if you know AWS, you know these are $$$$. - gp3 performs poorly

Interesting to see Gemma4 adopting a variant of our CLA architecture for saving memory for KV-cache. 🚀🚀🚀 CLA improves the Pareto frontier on accuracy vs KV-cache memory! Check out CLA: arxiv.org/abs/2405.12981 😃 Previously used by Character.AI as mentioned in this blog:

I have built and operated some of the biggest Paxos-based systems in the world, and strongly disagree with this statement. Paxos is well-understood, scales just the same as any protocol that solves the same problem, and is the foundation of the most reliable systems on earth.

I first tried to read this book in 2018 and couldn't make it through because I thought it was too hard. 8 years later it's the only book I recommend every developer reads, and I had the chance to review the 2nd edition. Join a study group, give it a read.
