I'm not an originalist but I'm pretty sure the Founders' intent wasn't to be ruled by an unelected court. Kinda sounds like monarchy.

The media is covering the extreme heatwaves around the world. Climate change is mentioned over and over again. Good. Why stop there? Now media, ask the hard questions. How do we tackle it? Which techs can be deployed at which cost, who should pay? Climate change isn’t unsolvable

.Congressman Greg Casar isn’t drinking any water today to protest a new law in Texas blocking water breaks for construction workers — and to call on the Biden administration to implement a heat stress rule for workers.

storytime! a personal 🧵 about how having one leg makes me think about climate change. I was born without my right leg below my knee. in its place, I use a 🦿. it hasn't been much of a hindrance to a good life and has taught me a lot about the world. /1

Hotel workers' dues funded our grad union campaign Local 33–UNITE HERE!; they paid my salary when I was organizing full-time. Frankly, hotel workers have done more to support me as an academic worker than APSA ever has. Solidarity forever

For those who needed to see it, there’s now absolutely no ambiguity on UNITE HERE 11’s position on whether the APSA should move forward with an in-person conference, even with panels being moved to an alternate site.

Yesterday, a man was found dead in the Rio Grande — trapped on a buoy designed by Greg Abbott to drown asylum seekers. Today, it's being reported that Texas troopers are separating migrant families at the border. Abbott has reached new lows, and it’s got to stop.

I'm pulling out of APSA. Leadership put us in a terrible position, and members will make all sorts of different but understandable choices based on many factors. But here is my rationale: 1/

Didn't expect to have the professional association I belong to humiliate itself for a solid 3 minutes on NPR this morning. They didn't even respond to a request for comment to defend themselves! What's the point of a professional association that brings shame on the profession?

From today's #APSA bus. meeting: -Contract betw/ APSA & JW Marriott/other struck hotels had a no-cost sever clause if strike occurs. -I asked "What would have cost to only sever contracts with Marriott & other @UNITEHERE11 struck hotels: Answer from Exec. Dir.: "We don't know."

This 5000 attendees number is total BS. I withdrew and stayed at home, but according to APSA, I am still registered--just not on the program. Plenty of people withdrew and sent multiple follow-up emails to APSA and somehow are still on the program.

The political power of corporate monopolies providing an essential public service (electricity) is rock solid as ever. That's the takeaway from the resounding defeat of Question #3 in Maine, where the private utility industry outspent opponents by about 30-to-1. (1/3)

Looking forward to speaking w/ students in Geoffrey Henderson's Colby College class about results of Maine's Question 3. Even though the PTP campaign was unsuccessful, I'm grateful to them for providing the opportunity to talk about electric utility policy with college students.
