He saw it across Europe, just like at the start of the year, and he didn’t prepare enough. He had time during summer to plan; but he didn’t plan enough. He was urged to act weeks ago, but didn’t act fast enough. Every way you look at it: Boris Johnson is just not good enough.

Boris Johnson, yesterday: “I am absolutely sure schools are safe.” Boris Johnson, this evening: “Schools are vectors of transmission.” The science didn’t change overnight. This government has shown nothing but cruelty & contempt for school staff, parents, students & unions.

It never stops being staggering that a government built on bogus promises to ‘control our borders’ in the face of fantasy threats failed completely to do so when faced with real & fatal ones.

Nobody even asks Boris Johnson where the Brexit £350m is for the NHS; it’s just accepted that Britain left the EU based on huge lies, and all a bit embarrassing to bring it up.

There’s been a million tweets already but I hope that when the story of Boris Johnson’s premiership is told, he’ll be remembered as the man who escaped a corruption crisis to go maskless in a hospital. The rot spreads from the head. This is who we are now.

I'm sad that Joe Root has stood down as England captain. He should have got nought in 27 innings, losing every match, ordered his team never to drink alcohol but been completely drunk during each match, then refused to go because he's said sorry and there's a war on.

MPs just voted on a motion to remove private schools' £1,700,000,000 tax break. That could pay for free school meals for *all* primary school pupils almost twice over. But Tory MPs voted it down, choosing to protect elite private schools, not improve opportunities for all kids.
