Topics include corn and soy profitability outlooks, disease/pest management and scouting, industrial hemp production for seed and fiber, understanding phosphorus loss and water quality, and navigating weed management and cover crops.

Got Sulfur? Sam Leskanich and @FavorettoVitor do! They’re the real experts on this topic, but I was in Sam’s study and couldn’t resist a video as we’ve got some awesome response to preplant S this season. Less S deposition & higher yields means more S needed early.

Make the most of soybean yield with the right nitrogen application. It takes 3 bu to pay for 75lbs N and research in 2020 showed a 6 bu yield increase with pre-plant N. Using management to capture yield can consistently lead to more profitable acres #grow21

Placement Matters! In order to truly hit higher yields we have to start feeding the plant and not just the soil. Here’s a sneak peak at some of the banding fertility research I’ll be presenting at the National Strip Till Conference on August 5th. Strip-Till Farmer @FeedtheBeast

Crop is planted, emerged, and ready for in-season management! Post Herbicide, Fungicide, or Nutrient Sidedress is up next, often marketed as “free-ride” for biologicals. But!, not every biological belongs with each free-ride. See below for in-season product considerations.

Our small plot research at Bartling Farms In Nashville, Illinois. Believe it or not we are testing over 150 different management practices in this picture! (Hybrid, Fertility, Population, Row-spacing, Fungicide, Biologicals, and all the Interactions!) #FindtheBeast #FeedtheBeast

Starter response in 2019’s late plant corn that came out of the ground like a rocket-ship. Roots couldn’t keep up with rapid above ground growth. Surprised me to see that starter worked in more than just cool & wet soils. Next video shows our 2021 cool and wet starter response.

In Dr. Below’s lab for 5 yrs now and I used to say “starter isn’t finisher” until I saw our starter responses in 19&20’s late-plant & now in 21’s early plant corn. We’ve seen 10-34-0 + @CHSAgronomy’s Cygin work great now in two conditions: Early&Cool AND Late&Hot. #FeedtheBeast

Excited for next week’s talk! Will be discussing exactly what are biologicals, how do they work, and some considerations for knowing which biologicals may benefit your system.
