As part of Epigram’s (University of Bristol, student newspaper) campaign to raise awareness about micro-agressions, I submitted the following sort-of-poem. Everything I have included is informed by talking with students, research and personal experience.

'We learnt to dance to the rhythm of the raindrops on rooftops,

Arms swaying softly in the drizzling dew decorating the dawn,

Hands beating a steady tempo to the thunder and the storm'

A poem about the music in the soul of Africa... with a soundtrack

This is a poem I wrote as I was reflecting on the various cycles of repetition that illustrate how this historically-continuous present darkness of capital does not prioritize life. From mass graves in residential schools, to ignoring the effects of pandemics and climate change.

I write poetry because as Audre Lorde says, ‘Poetry is not a luxury. It is a vital necessity of our existence.'

I wrote this poem on MicroAggressions last year. Let me know what you think!

In this blog post, I reflect on my experiences of attempting to procure jollof for events in UK HE. I argue that a taste of home transcends the sense in the tongue. It is time travel, it is nostalgia, it is identity, it recollects for us a sense of self.

In the 70s, History was removed as a compulsory subject from the Nigerian school curriculum. It was completely removed in 2009 and reinstated as optional in 2022. This essay explores the problems with the history of history education in Nigeria.

As we await the new season, 'I want us to reflect on how we often take isolated individual stories of love and romance as signals of great societal change. Interracial romance or love in racist environments are not wins for racial justice.'

A poem I wrote a couple of years ago... a reflection attempting to connect the African Diaspora through contemplations of loss, trauma and memory.

In this article, I argue that African educational language policies need to consider the use of local languages to ensure that assessments do not unintentionally act as two-fold tests, testing both subject matter & lingua franca proficiency.

Nigerian wedding notices are something else truly. No everyday words for marriage can be used. I remember someone once sent us an invitation emblazoned with the words, 'Eve cleaves Adam.' I asked my mother if this was a wedding invitation or notification of a murder? 🤷🏿‍♀️
