Temptation: a ridiculously early and packed calendar and then this gorgeous woman's book arrives and the carefully planned schedule is forgotten for a couple of hours.
Santa Montefiore , what you do to my willpower! 😂😍

We are honoured to host the launch of Zeinab Badawi's new book, 'An African History of Africa', at SOAS tonight.

This is a new account of Africa: the history of the oldest inhabited continent on the planet, told through the voices of Africans.

The book is out today.

Just been watching this on Channel 5 - a tale of British ports. From its patriotic “swashbuckling” tone I thought initially that it would simply gloss over the trans-Atlantic slave trade, but well done Historian for as good an account as possible given the constraints.

A day in NY with my baby sister, the shopaholic. 17 shops today! My only purchase: this lovely tote bag at the Apollo Theater. Me 'we're in Harlem, can go to the Schomburg Center?' Dudette actually sneered 'you can do your grown up things in your own time'. Bratty last born!

Racist backlash against Francesca Amewudah-Rivers's casting as Juliet has pretended to oppose 'inaccurate' or 'woke' casting, as if Shakespeare's Juliet were a real historical figure or a fixed point in theatrical tradition.

I reviewed Zeinab Badawi's new book AN AFRICAN HISTORY OF AFRICA for The Guardian - a refreshing, sweeping, detailed corrective to narratives imposed on the continent by others.
