Yesterday, the GOV.UK ignored pleas from the public, civil society and cross-party parliamentarians and stripped vital wildlife protections from the Planning & Infrastructure Bill. This is hugely disappointing, but we are not giving up. (1/3)

Nature is not a blocker to housing growth, an inquiry by MPs has found, in direct conflict with claims made by ministers. theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/n…

Commons committee report challenges ‘lazy narrative’ used by ministers that scapegoats wildlife and the environment No-one voted for this The Labour Party Steve Reed Keir Starmer :theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/n…

Nature is not a blocker to housing growth says Environmental Audit Committee. The Planning & Infrastructure Bill overrides existing habitat protections - all of which is unnecessary 😠 bbc.com/news/articles/…

“The government must not veer down the path of viewing nature as an inconvenience or blocker to housebuilding,” the report noted. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

Surely you have enough evidence now Steve Reed Rachel Reeves Keir Starmer that bats and newts are not the blockers you claimed they were so you can stop trying to cut environmental protections. Listen to science please. Don’t make me say I told you so again! Scrap pt 3!

East Yorkshire has England’s most northerly chalk stream flowing from Duggleby to Bridlington Harbour. We also have Driffield Beck here in East Yorkshire and Settrington Beck just over the North Yorkshire border. All could be threatened by development.

Chris Hinchliff MP (@chinchliffmp) 's Twitter Profile Photo

There is no conflict between housebuilding and nature—the real conflict is between greed and the kind of country we want. Planning deregulation lets developers put profit before people: cutting quality, hiking prices, and leaving families waiting for council homes.

❌ The UK Government has rejected Amendment 130 (now 40) & the chalk-stream protection amendment. This weakens safeguards for water, air and our most vulnerable wildlife. We won’t stop fighting for nature. Please email your MP to make your voice heard. action.wildlifetrusts.org/page/180301/ac…

Hard to believe Steve Reed valued the countryside and nature when in opposition, when last week he instructed Labour MPs to vote against an amendment in the planning bill which would have kept environmental protections. x.com/i/status/18077…

Hannah Bourne-Taylor (@writerhannahbt) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Labour coaxed you to vote for it with nature promises. Steve Reed told me to my face that Labour would mandate swift bricks and then blocked them. Are they mocking their own voters?

Unions and environmental groups have urged the government to boost funding for key environmental regulators in the Budget, warning that chronic under-resourcing, not nature protections, is driving delays in the planning system. politicshome.com/news/article/u…
