This poem is the “inappropriate content” B’nai Brith insisted—and apparently convinced Toronto Public Library—must be removed from the library.

Refaat was a beloved poet, scholar, teacher who was assassinated by Israel in Gaza alongside his family.

May his memory be a blessing.

As a Toronto Public Library writer in residence, I saw first hand what a radical space the library can be. I am asking that Toronto Public Library explain why they would withdraw this act of solidarity with Palestinians and Palestinian writers during an ongoing genocide.
