After Pearl Harbor, my father enlisted in the U.S. Marines. Beginning August 7, 1942, 11,000 Marines landed on Guadalcanal—including my dad. I’m humbled to travel to Solomon Islands with U.S. Embassy Australia Caroline Kennedy 80 years later to honor all those who fought for freedom.

.Secretary Antony Blinken on the situation in the Taiwan Strait: We’ve seen how Beijing has attempted to change the status quo on Taiwan for some time—now they’ve taken dangerous acts to a new level. There is no justification for this extreme, disproportionate & escalatory military response.

As I depart Cambodia, I’m reflecting on the meetings I had with ASEAN Foreign Ministers and other regional leaders. We made progress toward our shared goals, and I leave with optimism about the progress we still can make together toward our vision for the Indo-Pacific region.

I met with Kem Sokha during my trip to Phnom Penh. We are disappointed his politically motivated five-year trial persists without resolution. The Kingdom would benefit from restoration of his political rights and his participation in a democratic process in Cambodia.
