Huge congratulations to councillor Cllr Eva Dowling on her fantastic result in the #NUI #Seanad election today - trebling the vote and coming in 4th place is a testament to her campaign focused on promoting equality and protecting nature.

Covering this today I wish I could say the racism Hazel has received was shocking, but it sadly isn’t. Any post mentioning her inevitably draws it. It’s 31 votes in it, out of nearly 18,000, she is well within her rights to request a recount, put your phone down for 5 minutes.

Congratulations to Malcolm Noonan on his election to the Seanad Agricultural Panel. To top the poll is a huge achievement that highlights the importance and value in your work as Ireland’s first Minister for Nature.

Commiserations to Hazel Chu whose recount today did not go in her favour. To the naysayers who say she’s not wanted in Irish politics, she came fourth place in a hugely competitive race. It was extremely tight. She’ll live to fight another day.
