Going to live on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire tonight between 6 and 7 pm GMT (probably closer to 7pm) with The Naked Scientists - talking about nematodes (obviously😁) and other plant diseases as part of a program on plants and climate change Link to listen live: bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/li…
Fieldwork is done! I am very grateful to the local experts that took many risks to collect plants and butterflies with me: Larissa Santos, Ananda Silva e Renato Ramos. Also to my husband Delanno Alves that became an amazing butterfly catcher in the past 2 months.
The toxicity of these butterflies is such a complex trait. So much intraspecific variation! Well done,Anniina Mattila!
A #scicom piece I wrote for Deccan Herald based on the insightful work by Erika de Castro @mel_rosina et al. They showed host plant driven chem defence plasticity in Heliconius and that biosynthesis comes at a cost for a specialist but not in a generalist. bit.ly/2WyWCTT

Our pre-print is out - showing that effect of pollen-deprivation on fertility, weight and toxicity of H. erato butterflies is sex- and age-specific (biorxiv.org/content/10.110…). Huge thanks to my co-authors Josie, Glennis, Anniina Mattila, Søren Bak, Stephen Montgomery & @mel_rosina!
