There are days I remember how grateful I am for the upbringing my parents gave me, my six sisters, and brother. We thrived on donated clothes, hand-me-downs, oatmeal, powdered milk, rice, and pasta, all wrapped in love. It is through them that I became who I am today. Thank you.

This weekend, the Holen and Hopkins families met in Nampa ID to hold a remembrance for Amelia Esther Holen, my stepmother for 32 years, who passed away July 2023, and a celebration for Richard Holen, her husband and my dad, who helped raise 11 children across two families.

In #WashingtonDC for work, which gave me an opportunity to tour the #NationalMall. I started at the Lincoln Memorial and saw every memorial between it and the Washington Monument. Then I walked to the The White House. It made up for missing my 8th grade field trip because we moved.

Starting the final day of #NASWASummit24. It has been a great opportunity to listen and learn from other state workforce agencies (SWA) on ideas to improve unemployment insurance (UI) operations and customer accessibility. Thank you NASWA for a great event.

Thank you to the Hays County Texas Commissioners Court for reappointing me for another two-year term as an emergency services commissioner on the board of the Hays County ESD No. 5 / Kyle Fire Department. It has been an honor to serve the department, City of Kyle, and surrounding communities for the past 12 years.

We are watching our Texas Softball at the NCAA Softball regionals. Hearing the national anthem reminds me to be thankful that four of my sisters served our country.

With Texas Softball winning the National Championship, thinking about Elisa, my mother-in-law, who lived with Yvette Holen and I for 14 years and cheered on the team with us. While Elisa passed in December before the start of the season, I am sure she was watching from above.
