This is not a gumball with legs. This is a male spring peeper that is mid-peep. Spring peepers are tiny tree frogs no bigger than a paperclip, but they make an incredibly loud croak. You’ll hear their chorus in early spring near wetlands and marshy areas. 📸 Ryan Hagerty/USFWS

They see you when you're sleeping. They know when you're awake. 👀 Did you know that Canada geese will often migrate at night? Evening air is typically more calm, requiring less energy! 📷 Jim Hudgins/USFWS

At a recent fly fishing workshop hosted at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery in Kentucky and led by expert angler Bill Carman, a crew of anglers learned how to tie knots, read water, match the hatch, and hook into something bigger than a fish. Photo Bill Carman/Kentucky Wild

This post was brought to you by… fishing rods and boat fuel. No, really. Every time someone buys a fishing lure or fuels up their boat, a small federal excise tax is collected. That money? It’s been quietly funding some of the biggest wins in fish conservation for decades. 🧵

Did you know if you see an American woodcock or ruffed grouse in the Upper Midwest or Appalachians, chances are you're in great golden-winged warbler habitat? These birds all require early-successional forests. 📷 courtesy of Ryan Mandelbaum/CC BY-NC 2.0 flic.kr/p/2kYBUyV

Welcome to the American Heartlands, where folks don’t just talk about conservation, they live it. From the tallgrass prairies of Kansas to the sandhills of Nebraska, we partner with communities to protect habitat. This isn’t just conservation, it’s a legacy of love for the land.

Bobcats like to spice up their usual meal planning with an occasional rattlesnake. NBD. Rabbits and hares tend to be a favorite meal, but venomous snakes make the menu every now and then. This image was captured by a trail camera at Imperial National Wildlife refuge in AZ.

Have you spotted any Baltimore orioles? Males have bold black and orange plumage with white detailing while females tend to range in color from yellow to brown. These bright birds can be found across much of the eastern half of the country in the summer. 📷 Hanna McBrearty/USFWS

It's hard not to smile when you see the bright yellow chin and throat of a Blanding's turtle. It's even more impressive to realize that she's laying eggs - something they don't do until they reach 16-20 years old! 📷 Courtney Celley/USFWS

We’ve been celebrating law enforcement all week, but we couldn’t close out National Police Week without a round of ap-paws for the four-legged officers of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. 🧵
