.Lucinda McKnight argues students have been using AIwriting tools for years, chances are we’ve all marked papers that have used them. ChatGPT was just the tool the popularised AI writing. For example, Lucinda talked about Wordtune: wordtune.com #chatgpthighered

It's too late to disentangle what we do. However, on the beautiful writing q - it's dystopian that all humans will be doing is tinkering with AI generated text. Editors of writing need even more EJ and skills than writers... there's still a role for humans. #ChatGPTHigherEd

Simon senses there's a tension between students learning the stuff that AI can do, and learning the stuff that AI can't do. Lucinda points out we need to do both - they won't know how to do the latter before the former, they have to be experts first. #ChatGPTHigherEd

Lucinda also wonders about the Sisyphean labour that might be required when involving ChatGPT- checking references etc. Simon says this is an artefact of the early release of an engine that doesn't have integrated search functions etc. #ChatGPTHigherEd

Lucinda also points out that everyone should read the Ts&Cs on ChatGPT: that they will take your material and use it in ways they see fit. It's also not appropriate for high stakes assessment and they say it's not to be used as such. #ChatGPTHigherEd
