There is a chance that scattered showers following behind the frontal system will turn thundery as it reaches eastern parts of England this afternoon.

A look to the opening half of September 🍂 As meteorological summer draws to a close, low pressure will stick around, bringing the risk of thundery showers Mon-Thu. Come mid-month, high pressure may settle things down, helped by the recent MJO wave in the Indian Ocean.

Thundery #ukweather is on the way tomorrow and perhaps Thursday ⚡️ An active cold front associated with a deepening shortwave will offer a focal point for potentially severe and fast-moving t'storms on Weds. Moderate-strong wind shear will aid storm organisation and strength.

As a deepening shortwave arrives from the west, heavy and persistent rain associated with its warm sector will fall in the morning. Once this clears, the cold front will destabilise the unstable (MUCAPE ~1000 J/kg) and well-sheared environment leading to locally intense storms.

Here's how yesterday's outlook performed ➡️ A mass of heavy rain hampered instability and overall activity in the southern MDT. Stronger storms did build in the NW of the region, with high rainfall totals in the zones, along with strong gusts (and a possible tornado in Kent).

After a short settled spell the outlook reverts to westerly driven over the next 10 days. I do not see this pattern being shaken up anytime soon, northern and western areas particularly poor. For some areas of country this looks to be an exceptionally wet September. There is

A look at the rest of September 👇 A south-shifted jet stream has kept low pressure in charge. Though, low 20s are likely this week (peaking Fri) before cooling down again. As the month draws to a close, focus moves to Atlantic ridging, which may topple in or move to our N/E.

After weeks of unsettled and wet weather, a big change is on the way for the coming week 📉 High pressure has been lacking across the UK this September but a large anticyclone will arrive from the west by Monday, bringing a much drier picture for most 🌤️

The outlook for the opening week of astronomical Autumn is going as expected. A cold arctic maritime air mass has dropped temperatures some 8-11C from the lofty highs of Friday 📉 Atlantic ridging will topple in and build towards Scandinavia, keeping things more settled.
