Catching up on detective movies this month…

I hope MUBI's release of the 4K restoration of THE FALL introduces the film to a whole new legion of fans. I also hope it inspires a travel agency to sell tour packages to all the places where THE FALL was shot because that’s what I want for Christmas.

My favorite conspiracy theories are the ones where the guys pulling the strings leave JUUUUST enough clues so Internet sleuths can piece it all together.

FTW. Well fuck me this was absolutely incredible. No notes. Gordon Liu is simple mesmerizing. Some of the most ludicrous and spectacular fight scenes and choreography. Absolute Banger. 5/5

Celebrating 35 years on duty! Yuen Woo-ping’s IN THE LINE OF DUTY IV, starring Cynthia Khan, Donnie Yen, Michael Wong, and Yuen Yat-Chor, was released in Hong Kong on July 21, 1989.

Nearing the end of July, so I guess I can safely share my mid-year Top 20 action films of 2024. Extremely strong year so far with a couple of expected masterpieces and lots of surprise contenders. Still need to catch up on a few films. Excited for the rest of the year!
