Members are standing united as senior management at The University of Newcastle (UON) attempt to curtail staff pay & conditions. Senior management are ignoring workers' rights and the importance of union & staff involvement. What's happening at UON? 👇

there is a tendency to frame uni debates as hecs vs anti-hecs, esp those defending current state of affairs. but hecs has changed majorly over decades and pushed a bigger load onto students with price hikes much faster than inflation or wages. its not a unitary timeless system

full priced humanities degrees since job ready graduates is a fundamentally different reality than hecs as it was understood in the 90s

Young Australians are increasingly fed up. And it has a lot to do with the feeling that people such as Anthony Albanese are pulling up the ladder behind them, on education and welfare, while buying up properties most of them will never be able to afford. themonthly.com.au/the-politics/r…

My biggest takeaway from the Titan story is that we absolutely could have coordinated, multinational efforts to ensure no migrant dies crossing the sea and we choose not to.

After a massive 18 month+ campaign, which included defeating a non-union ballot and multiple strikes, 95% of members at University of Newcastle have voted YES to a new agreement 🎉 A huge thank you to all UON members who fought 'til the very end for a better university. #UnionWin
