A reminder that the autumn edition of the West Midlands All-Day Birdwatch will be on the traditional date of the first Saturday in September (6th). Here's hoping for a good day and lots of sites (new and old) to be participating #westmidsalldayer

Wasn't expecting much moth action on a cold and clear night so pleased with a NFG (Rusty Dot Pearl) & a NFY (Epinotia nisella). Also Ypsolopha sequella, Centre-barred Sallow, Angle Shades, Brimstone & Garden Rose Tortrix. B74 VC38 SK10 Ruth Newby BC Warwickshire EcoRecord

Fantastic news! A Nightjar was ringed at Marsh Lane Nature Reserve last night, just a stone’s throw from Birmingham Airport ✈️. That makes 6 in 4 years, all juveniles, highlighting a clear migration route for these elusive birds 🌙🪶. #Nightjar #BirdMigration

The current forecast for Saturday's #WestMidsAllDayer- could be better but could be worse; just a shame its clear overnight with no rain during the day. Sunday still looking good for some inland movement with overnight southeasterlies then rain during the day #AllWeekender

Ahead of tomorrow's #WestMidsAllDayer I remembered I hadn't posted the final final final scores from the 23 sites which participated in the Spring event on the 3rd May.

AMAZING! Just got details from BTO The Lesser Whitethroat I caught recently at Clopton, South Cambs (24 August 25) with a Serbian ring - had been originally ringed exactly a year before as a juvenile at a Serbian nature reserve at Slano Kopovo 1646km away! Cambs Bird Club

Many thanks to the 20 sites who participated in yesterday's #westmidsalldayer - 4 sites managed to break the 100 mark with Blithfield narrowly pipping Belvide to the post. I'll pull together a list of all the species seen across the sites (usually c140 species). Well done all 👏

HUGE Flock of Glossy Ibis still at Chew Valley Lake this morning. In Herons Geen Bay (10:15/11:15) I counted 57 in flight from a video still, plus another 13 (11 +2) on the ground, a total of 70 birds. All but 2 flew off towards Herriots, where I saw most of them later.
