Some v good suggestions in this report about greater public participation in policy debates, eg, citizen involvement in select committee inquiries and in new government mission boards. It also argues for citizen involvement in migration policy to help reset public debate.

This is critical work from Demos it is essential we build back public trust but truly engaging them and this is how to do it.

Lots of great stuff in here to digest and think about, and some very practical recommendations for embedding public participation in policy making! Tweeters please note, not all public engagement = citizens' assemblies 🙃

Our Citizens' White Paper is the first piece of research to set out why, when & how participation should be embedded at the heart of national policy making. Deliverism and standards are important, but for the Prime Minister to resolve the Trust Crisis, participation will be key.

And… with my The Policy Institute evaluation hat on: it is important to embed evaluation of programme of public participation, to ensure that it, indeed, does what it says on the tin, ie improve trust etc. Else, it may backfire! Susannah Hume. Great report Miriam Levin Demos.
