So-called “inclusionary zoning” is bad because it forces middle class renters to shoulder the *entire* financial burden of subsidizing the affordable units in their building while actual rich people, who overwhelmingly live in single family homes they own, pay NOTHING.

States like Texas and Georgia created more livable cities for Black and Latino populations by adopting a pro-growth, capitalist approach to the economy. Despite more state power and ivory tower progressivism, New York and California have failed to do the same.

This would make a lot more sense if employers dictated where you could live. We just need to build a lot more homes near job centers and not a 45-90min drive away.

Land use reform is one of *the* big issues of our day. One paper I quite like estimated that if America had considerably more lax land use, growth rates would be about 0.7 percentage points higher. If America had that since 1980, it would be almost 50% richer today.
