This #MiniBudget embeds unfairness across the UK. The UK Government should be offering meaningful support to those who need it the most. Instead, they’re giving tax cuts to the rich, bonuses to bankers and protecting the eye-watering profits of energy companies.

Liz Truss has not spoken publicly in the 6 days since her government announced the biggest tax cuts for 50 years. In that time: the pound has hit record lows, gilt yields over 6%, dozens of mortgage products pulled, damning IMF criticism and now an emergency BoE intervention.

Which other central banks have been forced to intervene in their domestic bond markets to prevent a localised financial crisis triggered by their own government?

Liz Truss repeatedly told the BBC that energy bills are capped at £2,500. They are not. This figure is based on what a “typical” household with average use will pay. It is *not* the maximum amount any household will pay.

The remaining personal tax cuts still give most to the best off. The cut in basic rate income tax will benefit people on £50,270 and more will save £377 a year people on £20,000 £93. Scrapping the 1.25% NI increase will save £74/yr on £20,000 but £1718 on £150,000, £894 for an MP

I presume they forgot the unfunded tax cuts will take money from public services involved in policing, prosecuting and imprisoning. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Contraception provision shows some signs of recovery post pandemic in community clinics and GP practices. However, it is concerning to see that recovery is far from optimal, with LARCs still lagging behind pre-COVID levels, particularly in primary care. ow.ly/Jh2R50KZyal

Children of immigrants who despise other immigrants probably shouldn’t be in charge of immigration policy. They often seem to be dealing with personal issues that shouldn’t be anywhere near the political space. People who protected & defended their parents might do a better job.

Data in Germany suggests we are in for another COVID spike. When you can, I’d get your 4th vaccine dose. You really don’t want long covid. I know some young fit people, who had initial mild covid who have really suffered long term.

While the govt has promised the energy price guarantee will last two years, the initial contracts with energy firms were only for three months (and meant to roll on each 3mths) This mitigation to energy rises was Liz Truss' plan, with such flux I've no idea how locked in it is?

Global food prices have surged 65% since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. UK food inflation up 14.5% this year, and people on benefits and in low pay have had no payrises. So millions are hungry. Some will starve. And our politicians are silent, more interested in ‘markets’.

Climate change is here and NO way left to make its impact bearable by continuing "as normal". We need large-scale, rapid change to avoid the worst consequences. We need to reimagine our way of life and accelerate getting to net zero emissions theguardian.com/environment/20…
