Been watching John Prescott’s funeral - full of great anecdotes, and a particularly nice choice of hymns ‘Eternal Father, Strong to Save’ aka ‘For those in peril on the sea’ for the former seaman And ‘Amazing Grace’ with its links to another former Hull MP William Wilberforce

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already achieved enough to go down in history as one of the great leaders - showing his true character and rising to the moment at a time of national existential crisis. He deserves credit and respect - and he’ll continue to get that from the UK 🇺🇦🇬🇧

In an extraordinary display of public support, heads of state, heads of government, and foreign ministers from all over Europe and Canada are posting in support of Ukraine in response to the Oval Office meeting with Trump, Zelenskyy, and Vance.

The silhouetted remains of the High Court Banksy are much more likeable than the original - creating a curiously medieval quality...as if depicting Thomas a Becket being attacked in the crypt

A clever bit of artistry in this manuscript, making it appear like a dog has gone through one side of the page and out the other - 15th century, Kraków, MNK 3025 I, pp. 469-470

Claimed earlier that with enough support I’d be able to reach the summit of Everest and was rightly relentlessly mocked by colleagues. How hard can it be…?

Somebody got bored keeping the parish records of Dinton (Wilts). Wonder who this boxing legend was and when the match took place that established Christopher Pashill's superiority. The entry is on the sheet for 1607/1608.

I remember Menzies Campbell as a fellow Fife MP and a friend who was always great to work with across party lines, who shared a strong sense of social justice and a belief in international cooperation. One of the great leaders of our times and a decent, compassionate man. RIP

A few years ago Prunella Scales sent out Christmas cards to people who donated to one of the many charity projects she and Timothy West supported - obviously I kept it and just dug it out (I enjoy the repeated amendments to make certain people knew who they were from)
