Why is Christianity declining in the US? We have health insurance. We have savings accounts and retirement funds. We have our meal planning services and appliance protection plans. Many people don't feel like they need church because they don't NEED the church

To get at how tenuous this theological position is, imagine every paid staff leader at these churches being brought up on charges changed their title from “pastor” to “minister.” If there were no “pastors” but only ministers, cred committees wouldn’t have a leg to stand on.

Watched TMNT (1990) with the boy last night. And laughed at this bc like 20 minutes earlier they’re spinning like breakdancers and fighting on skateboards. Which implies that “the old style” was in fact very silly

I said this a few days ago and I’ll say it again. The shallowness of this theological take is evident. If a Texas Baptist church decided to change all their staff titles to “minister” rather than “pastor” and employ women, there’d be no doctrinal grounds to reject such churches

Adam Renberg weight into a very live and relevant question in Christian higher ed: what constitutes "good" Bible reading?

why the hell is the state superintendent of oklahoma schools antagonizing a governor like 5 states over (i know the reason btw. it’s just an utterly inane reason)

Yall know Cracker Barrel is a chain restaurant, right? Like, they’re not Pa Franklin’s General Store. They’re the McDonald’s of biscuits and grits

I'm not going to say much about Dobson right now, but I will say that my family did go on pilgrimage to FotF and especially Whit's End when I was probably 10

If we’re all so nostalgic for the idyllic 1930s rural South experience, how come nobody ever complained about Cracker Barrel having air conditioning, smoke-free seating, and wifi?

In my most recent post, I attempt the impossible: connecting the Cracker Barrel debacle and Matthew Barrett's conversion to Anglicanism. patheos.com/blogs/anxiousb…

Denominational entity heads do know the average pastor of an average sized church makes like $70k, right? It’s almost like they thought Jesus said it was super easy for the rich to enter the kingdom.

Y’all do know people emigrated in the Middle Ages, right? Like, Rome had an entire province called Africa Proconsularis

I got spicy: “For some people, the rocking chairs at Cracker Barrel and the incense and vestments in the Anglican parish are doing similar work in very different spaces.” patheos.com/blogs/anxiousb…
