The post-Assad era started with high hopes and relative calm but as Syria remains deeply fractured, many feared that an explosion of tensions was almost inevitable. The recent violence is the most serious challenge to interim President Sharaa yet. bbc.com/news/articles/…

"Trump is the first US president since WW2 to challenge the role that his country set for itself many decades ago. And he is doing this in such a way that, to many, the old world order appears to be over and the new world order has yet to take shape". bbc.com/news/articles/…

📣 Some news about me: Yesterday (Wednesday) I was detained by police in Istanbul, held for 17 hours and then deported from Turkey to the UK. Told I was “a threat to public order”. In the country I lived in - and love. Journalism is not a crime. Here’s the BBC’s statement:

🔴 #Gaza: Rescue teams found the bodies of 15 emergency responders - from PRCS, Civil Defense and United Nations. Their ambulances were hit by Israeli forces. "They were here to save lives. Instead, they ended up in a mass grave." These abhorrent acts require accountability.

Hezbollah has been battered by the war with Israel. Now, even people within the group are questioning its purpose. Is this a turning point? We travelled to southern Lebanon to see the challenges Hezbollah supporters face - and the criticism they have. bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

SCOOP: We obtained video footage showing Israel attacked the convoy of aid workers in Gaza with a barrage of bullets, a paramedic frantically says his prayers of death. The ambulances had lights on & were marked refuting Israel's claim. w/ Christoph Koettl nytimes.com/2025/04/04/wor…

I’m back on BBC Radio 4 From Our Own Correspondent this weekend, reflecting on what might be next for Hezbollah. The group, battered by the war with Israel, is under pressure to disarm. But can it change? bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…

Hugo Bachega (@hugobachega) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Hezbollah is under pressure to disarm but any discussions are likely to be long and difficult. Pushing the group too hard, too quickly, could result in even more violence in Lebanon where many still remember the 1997-1990 civil war. My BBC News (World) report. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
