Another 'freebies' row ... Why would keep accepting these after the furore caused so far? Liability. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

"It’s hard to overstate how badly the Conservatives have done – but one statistic stands out: they have lost two-thirds of all the councillors' seats that they were defending." My analysis of the local election results for Inside Croydon insidecroydon.com/2025/05/02/its…

UPDATE: with 18 out of 23 councils reported, the same is now also true of Labour, which has (as it stands) lost just over two-thirds of the seats they were defending.

"The people raising their dislike for cuts to pensioners’ winter fuel payments or disability benefit cuts weren’t urging Labour to go further and faster. They want Prime Minister Keir Starmer to stop and do a U-turn." My column for Inside Croydon insidecroydon.com/2025/05/02/its…

"Labour.. say we just need to go further & faster. People think you're going in the wrong direction. They don't want you to go further & faster in taking away pensioners benefits or benefits from disabled people. They want you to stop & change direction" Andrew Fisher šŸŽÆ

.Andrew Fisher points out that scapegoating immigrants like Reform does isn't going to bring back the winter fuel allowance. Whereas if we raise taxes on the top 5% of earners we could bring back the winter fuel allowance & reverse the cuts to disability benefits.

Saul Staniforth (@saulstaniforth) 's Twitter Profile Photo

.Andrew Fisher: the Labour govt doesn't say anything positive about immigration. Instead it treats immigration as a problem & this legitimises what Reform is saying. And btw, you know who else used to say Labour need to start making the positive case for immigration?

"The question now is whether the left and centre-left of the party can force a change of direction, or whether Starmer continues to drive Labour ā€œfurther and fasterā€ to oblivion." My column for The i Paper ... inews.co.uk/opinion/labour…

"Labour lost 65% of the council seats it was defending, off the back of what were underwhelming results in 2021. This was the worst set of local election results for a new PM on record" My The i Paper column on why "further and faster" isn't the answer inews.co.uk/opinion/labour…

"The government’s planned disability benefit cuts will hit 700,000 families who are already in poverty, according to internal DWP forecasts obtained by the Guardian" (In addition to the 250,000 people driven into poverty by the cuts) Vile The Labour Party theguardian.com/society/2025/m…
