Gundagai’s Richard Norden has been honoured for his conspicuous bravery in the Vietnam War by being awarded the highest military honour, the Victoria Cross for Australia. So privileged to be part of the announcement and speak on his and the community’s behalf at the Aust War Memorial.

Thoughts are with my friends, family and their livestock down the Cooper and the Bulloo. Floods are rising beyond old records yesterday and today. Thargomindah levy breached last night and the town evacuated to the airport. People first. Livestock second.

We have unlocked a $105 million fencing support package for flood affected Western Queenslanders. The support is activated under the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

We had a family of friends rock in here yesterday and helped shovel and clean mud all day. Didn’t ask. Just came. Drove through flood water to get here. Brought a heap of food. Worked their butts off. And made us laugh. And they did it again today. I didn’t know we needed that.
