Summer school season isn't quite over for me yet: For the rest of the week I will be attending #UCREL2024 SCC Lancaster - we've heard a fantastic opening presentation by Prof Mitkov and are now working on the text visualisation workshop by Dr Mo El-Haj and Nouran Khallaf 🗒📊


Before lunch we have our first hands on session on machine translation and quality estimation presented by Tharindu Ranasinghe Damith Premasiri #UCREL2024


SCC Lancaster Dr Mo El-Haj Nouran Khallaf I spent the rest of yesterday at #UCREL2024 playing around with information retrieval systems thanks to Saad Ezzini and Damith Premasiri before moving on to something closer to my day-to-day: Semantic Analysis with Paul Rayson and Dr. Daisy Lal - a fantastic, very busy first day! 🙂

Our final session for the day builds on the previous LLM topic to focus on emotion analysis, presented by Dr Ignatius Ezeani Scott Piao and Frank Arreerard #UCREL2024



Day 3 of the #UCREL2024 summer school - it's vaguely sunny here at SCC Lancaster and we're starting the day with a coffee and a talk by Eric Atwell on LLMs for education.


The next plenary talk is "Machine Learning Models in Production: Lessons Learnt and Practical Considerations" by Akram Dweikat (Akram Dweikat), featuring insights from Deliveroo and HP Z Workstations & Solutions. #UCREL2024


The first hands-on practical session of day 3 is "Docker for NLP 101" with Dr John Vidler and Dr Nouran Khallaf (Nouran Khallaf). #UCREL2024



Over the past few days, we embarked on an incredible journey of learning, collaboration, and innovation at the UCREL NLP Research Centre Summer School. The mini hackathon was the perfect finale. Congratulations to all the mini hackathon participants and winners.
