The Minnesota assassin appears to be a hate-filled right winger. So can we stop walking on eggshells about MAGA's legitimization of political violence? Yes, Republicans have also been the target of inexcusable violence, but this isn't a "both sides" issue. 1/ A🧵on the danger.

Five things to remember about war: 1. Many things reported with confidence in the first hours and days will turn out not to be true 2. Whatever they say, the people who start wars are often thinking chiefly about domestic politics 3. The rationale given for a war will change

This is a travesty and a nightmare. The US was a founder of @Gavi. It lowers vaccine costs for the world, has vaccinated 1B children, and averted 19M deaths. This pull out will cost 100s of thousands of children's lives a year -- and RFK Jr will be personally responsible.

Prof Skocpol making a crucial point here. The centralized police. And then the lawless quasipolice who guard the camps. Trump’s death bill moves the US towards those two thresholds, well known from Germany in the 1930s. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/critica…

This is a very important idea, I think, and a very difficult challenge many. And I include myself. But it is crucial in the formation of long-term relationships. Bending who you are to satisfy another person rarely works in the long-term. Best to be yourself from the outset.

The things you pay attention to get magnified. It's hard to actually see the world when you're zipping through it. You need to stop, look, and look some more. Some write. Others paint. Any practice that gets you looking at the world like this is probably a good thing.

My take "This is an assault on the independence of civil society in America. And conservatives, liberals, moderates, they should all be concerned when a White House tells you how to run your private associations" AAC&U Cato Institute American Association of University Professors FIRE ACE pbs.org/newshour/show/…
