Reflections rom last year this time. To celebrate Ashenda during a genocide is resistance. Drawing on examples from Nazi occupied Europe & colonialism, Dr Chessie Baldwin discussed how love, dance, language & humour is an important part of resistance tghat.com/2021/08/29/ash…

UNICEF strongly condemns the air strike in Mekelle, the capital city of the Tigray Region, Ethiopia. The strike hit a kindergarten, killing several children, and injuring others. UNICEF calls on all parties to agree to an immediate cessation of hostilities.

It is reported early this morning that the joint #Eritrea and #Ethiopia forces have launced an offensive on #Tigray on the northern front. #TDF is again fighting a three-front war. The civillian sufferings are immense. Time for IC to concentrate on the biggest #war in the world?

I've been on a social media break but wanted to share two pieces of good news. We welcomed a baby boy in early Jan and my first peer-reviewed article is out with Lilith Journal! Greatful to the editors & reviewers for such a positive experience 🙏Smiling through the tiredness 💕

Our very own Dr Chessie Baldwin has recently had their article published in the Lilith Journal. It explores female combatants in Tigray, Ethiopia, and how they negotiated their femininity during conflict. #WomensHistoryMonth Please have a read here: press-files.anu.edu.au/downloads/pres…

So so honoured to have contributed a chapter to this book on sexual violence in Tigray, by Rita, Rowena and Sally Keeble. Launched yesterday on the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, it's avaliable now - all proceeds to survivors.

I'm forever indebted to the many who have given their lives to allow me my right to exist as a black woman, as a Tigrayan, and as an Irob. Their sacrifice will not be in vain. Thank you DefendDefenders for the honour of Human Rights Defender of the month. defenddefenders.org/human-rights-d…

This thesis was a labour of love, literally. There are a mountain of 'thank yous' to be said but I'll start with just one - to every woman who shared her story for this thesis, thank you for trusting me with your words and believing in this project 🧡 እዚ መጀመርታ ጥራይ እዩ

As we approach the UN Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, this excellent article about the experience of Tigrayan women by Dr Chessie Baldwin shows how this issue has the power to politicise

Beautiful week spent in Tigray. Especially pleased to have been able to deposit my thesis in Hawelti museum. The women memorialised in the Martyr's Monument are some of the first I ever wrote about so it's a very special full circle moment!
