Incredible talk on LVAD Alarms by Andrew Higgins at #critcarecards25. High yield for trainees and will be revisiting this many many times: ⭐️ Low flow alarms have a wide differential and they indicate something may be wrong, but it’s our job to think through them carefully

Speaking of cardiac surgeons….next up: “when should you wake up your surgeon for a post op emergency?” By Amy G. Fiedler, MD (Spoiler alert for fellows: I’ve woken up surgeons in Cardiology Fellowship Training at Tufts MC and have never been yelled at!) Onwards …..

In 2014, when I started my first real job as a cardiologist, I didn’t even know how deep in debt I was. After years of deferral and forbearance, the total hit me: $350,000 in student loans, car loans, credit cards, and an underwater condo. My net worth was –$350K at age 32.

In honor of Dr. Robert Bartlett’s passing, here is the first ECMO patient, Esperanza Pineda, both on ECMO shortly after birth in 1975 and at age 44. She is now 50.

This is a truly historic moment. The results from this pivotal trial evaluating a fully percutaneous transcatheter mitral valve replacement technology has opened a new treatment option for patients who are not good candidates for surgery or TEER. This is a remarkable milestone

How I consult on cardiorenal syndrome: • Bump furosemide from 20 to 60 mg bid IV • Consider rapid resumption of sacubitril/valsartan and empagliflozin. Let's not treat these life saving medications as nephrotoxins

Someone needs to listen to this voice of reason Harlan Krumholz JACC Journals because we are the only country that makes practicing as a cardiologist so onerous, expensive, & irrelevant. I do MOC every 3 months & the questions are not helpful to my practice. I leave it to last minute

Check out this great work led by Steven Hsu and team. Generating pressure-volume data and RV-PA coupling with just a PA catheter and in real time is on the horizon! Johns Hopkins Cardiology MUSC Cardiology Duke Cardiology #PeoplesVentricle

Do we know how inhaled treprostinil works in ILD-PH? Here we show that it’s mainly hemodynamic with exercise CO increasing acutely. But it makes exercise gas exchange worse, and increases exercise PCWP. Complex problem and nightmare to treat in some. publications.ersnet.org/content/erj/ea…

POLY-HF trial: Polypill containing metoprolol, spironolactone, and empagliflozin improved EF, QoL, and adherence, and reduced HF hospitalizations at 6 months in HFrEF patients compared to usual care. #AHA25 View the slides here: clinicaltrialresults.org/wp-content/upl…
