On Aug 28, 2023, Deputy Machado risked his life for others after BSO’s Air Rescue 85 helicopter crashed into a residential building taking the life of Battalion Chief Terryson Jackson and local resident Lurean Wheaton. His brave actions amid the flames helped prevent more loss.
