There are some things you’ll have to wait for.
There are some things you’ll have to give up.

Parents: You’re raising a child, not an athlete. Teach them respect, hard work, how to be a good person. Show them what character & work ethic are. Hold them accountable. Teach them that they won’t ever get what they don’t earn. Strong, well-rounded kids find success much easier!

8 things that have changed in the last 5 years
I stopped coaching after the 2018 season. I had no idea major changes were on the horizon for the profession. The Head Coach of 2024 has different issues that I did not deal with as a Head Coach. Here are 8 things that have…

Work ethic doesn’t reflect motivation or inspiration as much as it reflects discipline. High integrity people work hard because it’s who they are. They don’t need coddling or a cheering section. Their motivation comes from within. And really, that’s the only place that matters!

I received a DM from a dad with a son at a different program, wondering how to get his son some exposure/recruited. He said their head coach isn't much help.

Now there are two scenarios at play. His son isn't that good and the coach doesn't want to put the reputation of the…

Get Better Every Day. Sometimes that means you have to hear a message you don’t want to hear. As bad as you may want to avoid it - it may very well be the advice or motivation you need to take yourself to new heights. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable when the goal is📈

You should never feel the need to talk bad about, down to or insult someone else, in order to elevate yourself.

Any path to success is hard! It’s supposed to be, but you can make yours much easier by surrounding yourself with those who want to be great & will work to get there. Get a circle of people who have the same drive as you whether on the court or in life. The best create the best!

Theoretical question. . .

You have a player with multiple Power 5 offers. A D2 or FCS coach wants to meet him face to face and offer him. To do this, u have to pull him from an academic class. Do u call the player down?

Recruits: If that college coach walks into your school tomorrow, will everyone they run into give you a GREAT recommendation? If you are unsure, then look at things you can improve to make sure that answer becomes a YES! They want players they can trust, on and off the field!…

Sports lessons learned over 30 years raising my kids (2 now adults, 1 in 7th grade, 24 foster kids).

Slow down. Take a breath.

It’s okay to miss a few scheduled sports activities.

It’s ok to not participate in select club sports. Your kids will turnout just fine…in fact…

Success, winning and greatness are not overnight processes. Each require a great deal of patience, discipline and hard work. Along the way you may encounter naysayers and nonbelievers, but your confidence and belief must outweigh their doubt.

HS coaches. Do you want to win the hearts and minds of your athletes.

Then you gotta do the work in the off season and think like a college coach looking for the next class of athletes.

I just finished my 20th in home meeting with a player and his parents.

If you can play, they will find you...

NFL rosters have players from P4, G5, FCS, D2, NAIA and D3.

What matters is the good product you put on tape to get the scouts interested, just like you did in high school with your highlight film.
