As the weekend and half term approach, the conversations for some families turn once again to meal times. No one should have to live this way, it's not right. It can be sometimes hard to know where to go for help and support. We can help you navigate the support available.

According to the Times today, the govt will keep the £20/week uplift to Universal Credit. If true, this will help many families across the country. Well done Joseph Rowntree Foundation and thousands of others for an impressive campaign that we Shelter were proud to support thetimes.co.uk/article/sunak-…

This pandemic has shown that we may all need to rely on the social security system at some point. The Government did the right thing by uplifting #UniversalCredit by £20, but to ensure progress is not undone, they must make this permanent and extend to people on legacy benefits.

Great to see Keir Starmer calling for the Government to #KeepTheLifeline of the £20 uplift to #UniversalCredit in his speech today. The Government can do the right thing, keep families afloat and prevent plunging 200,000 more children into poverty.

Where is this being rolled out? If families are entitled to £30 worth of food, why is there delivery only equating to just over £5?! 1 child or 3, this what they are receiving? Unacceptable

What is going on here? If you are in a similar situation and being given insufficient #FreeSchoolMeals please email me. If the government is allowing companies to make money by providing cut price meals for hungry children we will fight for change. No child should be going hungry

The furore over whether people in poverty can be trusted with vouchers reminds me that, over the years, I’ve come across many people, some in low waged jobs and some, for various reasons not working. A thread about poverty, taking responsibility and budgeting. 1/n

Vital reading this morning. A decade of austerity met #COVID19 and #lockdown to create a perfect storm for those living in poverty. It's vital that policies are implemented to keep people afloat.

Here’s the shorting the bond thing for anyone who’s nose starts bleeding when they try and grasp it: you give me £10 and I go out and buy you a coat, and I say yeah yeah yeah, you’re coat is in my wardrobe, I’ll give it to you later. But THEN -

I was recently asked for evidence to demonstrate #gender had been impacted by #Covid by a man who wasn't aware it had 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thank you Joseph Rowntree Foundation for this on #IWD2021 which saves me countless email attempts toning down my frustration. Instead, I gave a handy link. Thanks Andrea Barry

📢 Breaking news: The High Court has ruled that the DWP’s #UniversalCredit deductions policy is unlawful. The legal challenge was brought by Shelter acting for four former rough sleepers & by Hackney Community Law Centre in a similar claim. More about the judgment: blog.shelter.org.uk/2021/03/high-c…

New vlog 👇England’s footballers laid old mistakes to rest, but government seems determined to repeat old ones. Universal Credit cut hits working families & left being places hard. Bad politics, bad economics & plain immoral. ⁦Joseph Rowntree Foundation

End of furlough looming, loss of employment, physical and mental illness, personal loss…the impact of COVID-19 is still being felt across much of the country. Now is not the time to remove vital relief packages which to many are a lifeline…

Boris Johnson's tax rise means a landlord who owns and rents out dozens of properties won’t pay a penny more, but the tenants working in full-time jobs will. They are hitting young and low-paid workers while leaving the wealthy untouched. 11 years of Tory unfairness continues.

The UK govt's plan to get "half a million people off welfare and into work" by sanctioning jobseekers after 4 weeks who don't take any job outside their field has...a few holes. First, there's no evidence to suggest unemployed people are dragging their feet on finding jobs.

It is simply unthinkable that the #EnergyPriceCap of £3549 announced today can go ahead without significant Government intervention. Millions more will face the threat of bills they simply can't pay, homes they can't heat and stomachs they can't fill. jrf.org.uk/press/unthinka…
