I have a few tips for residency survival. 1) radical empathy 2) cognitive reframing 3) radical empathy for yourself 4) venting *privately* PRN when the above fails

as a premed: cried with patients as a med student: cried with patients as a doctor: cried with patients & always share & check in with my team. being human is a gift, a skill, and a necessity.

A lot of ICU medicine is “don’t just do something, stand there” and I sometimes find that more fun than “don’t just stand there, do something”

Presenting adult patients: “this is a 54y male presenting with shortness of breath” Presenting peds patients: “this adorable little nugget is a 7 month old chonker. Poor buddy, his lungs got the zoomies, but he feels a little better after I gave him a sticker.”
