interaction between climate warming and intensive agricultural land use is associated with reductions of 50% in the abundance and 27% in the number of insect species. These patterns are particularly evident in the tropical realm nature.com/articles/s4158…

Previous studies of bees have focused on crop pollination & concluded abundance matters more than species diversity. But new research by Dylan Simpson found bee diversity is actually *quite* important in wild plant ecosystems. More plants need more/dif bees! thebulletin.org/2022/04/latest…

The Winfree lab greatly enjoyed a visit from the inspirational Judie Bronstein this week. A chilly hike in the Princeton Institute Woods to see spring ephemeral wildflowers, if not many bees yet.

I wrote about a bitcoin mining trend that isn't getting nearly enough attention. Bitcoin miners/fossil fuel companies—they are increasingly one & the same—are buying portable generators, hauling in server farms in shipping containers & mining bitcoin right at the wellheads

👉🗞How can the Rutgers administration tell us there's no more money left to guarantee graduate student funding extensions when their “rainy day fund” of unrestricted reserves increased by over 40 percent to over $800 million? #RUKidding #RutgersHasTheMoney

How can the administration leave these grads in the lurch, after their years of work toward their degrees and FOR RUTGERS?!? Grads whose work was disrupted by the pandemic need guaranteed funding extensions now! inquirer.com/news/rutgers-u…

This is a brilliant (with brilliance attributable to former lab postdocs Tina Harrison and Mark Genung) and very useful paper. Researchers can now include the role of abundance, not just species, in biodiversity-ecosystem functioning analyses.

"All we are saying, is give weeds a chance!" "Weeds" get a bad press but they can be nectar and pollen sources for #bees #butterflies and other #pollinators So put away the #glyphosate & other #herbicides & learn to live with them. RT if you think we should #GiveWeedsAChance
