Trying hard works until it gets in your way. 4 stages of competence: 1. Unconscious incompetence 2. Conscious incompetence 3. Conscious competence 4. Unconscious competence (flow) Lots of people realize you can get stuck on #1, but you can also get stuck on #3. Relax and win.

Prolonged periods of stress should be followed by prolonged periods of rest. Well-timed rest days are investments that can yield sizable returns. By allowing yourself to recover from significant accumulated stress you are then able to push harder in the future.

@RonGriggJr Jonathan J. Marcus I explain it like this to distance runners… if you want to be a better 10k runner you need to be better at the 5k. How do you get better at the 5k? Be better at the mile. How do you get better at the mile? Be better at the 800, etc…

I’m a big fan of Deadbugs, but they can get a little boring. So give this a try...not bribing, pretty challenging, and certainly not a Day 1 variation.

The misconception that you need to be exhausted, sweaty and breathless to gain benefits from exercise is probably the greatest prevailing exercise myth that exists today and it leads many gymgoers chasing fatigue instead of real progress.

Spoiler alert: Displaying your workout times publicly doesn’t leave you at a disadvantage to your competitors. They are either going to beat you or not regardless if they know your times. But I think fans can appreciate the transparency and motivation from your training.

"Don't live in fear" Let's talk about that phrase. Being uncertain, unsure, hesitant is not displaying fear. Fear is failing to come face to face with what you're facing. It's ignoring the demands you'll face Embracing Reality isn't fear. It's being tough.

Stepping outside of your comfort zone is never easy but sometimes so necessary. Today I raced a mile and was part of a 4x400 team in a well organized, socially distant track meet with my Dan Walters teammates. For… instagram.com/p/CDFIuUHHYZw/…

Most injuries are preventable through very gradual exposure to new stress loads. Take your time, don't rush into any new phase of training and your body will make the necessary adaptations to handle high loads eventually.

Coaches: It doesn’t matter how long you’ve coached or how much you know about your sport. Real relationships will drive real motivation. If you don’t take the time to get to know the kids you coach, how can you know the best, most effective ways to teach, lead & motivate them?

I had the day off from running yesterday. Nutrition wise I ate the SAME as I do on a normal training day. SAME amount, not less, listening to my hunger cues. Had dessert as well. You don’t have to earn what you eat. You need to fuel to train. And for us pro athletes train to win.

When we give someone a safe space to share what they're going through personally or professionally, we make them feel seen, heard, and valued. Empathy is essential to good leadership.

It’s not that elite runners don’t feel pain and discomfort during their hard workouts, it’s just that they react differently. They don't freak out, see it as an enemy to combat. They navigate through it.

Think of workouts as a science experiment. You are hypothesizing how many repeats an athlete can do at X speed with Y rest. If they fail to do what you expect, do you blame them and call them 'weak', or do you ask why your hypothesis was incorrect?
