To celebrate Black History Month, I am highlighting Ida B. Wells. She was a courageous journalist, among other things, who risked death to report on lynchings. She held a mirror up to evil and in the process shown a light on courage, conviction and determination.

In honor of Black History Month, today I honor Tom Lee. Memphians know who he was. In 1925, he rescued 32 people from a sinking riverboat in the Mississippi. He did that in a small boat even though he couldn’t swim. Heroes like Tom Lee are all around. You just have to see them.

Happy International Woman’s Day. It really should be much longer than a day. I have been blessed in my life to be inspired and challenged by a bunch of really strong intelligent women starting with my wife, daughter, mother and so many more.

Today is the 225th anniversary of Tennessee being admitted as the 16th state. Proud to call Tennessee my home. We have a long history of public service.

Saw this today at the National Civil Rights Museum and couldn’t help but think of our LGBTQ brothers and sisters. They must view many state legislatures like the civil rights pioneers viewed those who made the “law” back then.

RIP Tina Turner You were a legend and an inspiration. Memphis is proud to call you one of our own. Heaven is dancing at your arrival. Keep on Rollin!

Happy 901 Day! Proud to live in and be from Memphis. Despite some obvious challenges, Memphis is a great place to live, work and play.
