The fact that a senior civil servant who specialised in assessing arms exports to Israel has ended his 18-year career because he thinks the Foreign Office "may be complicit in war crimes", and not a single national outlet has reported it, is frightening. We have a captive media.

EXCL: Ambulances were called out to Amazon warehouses more than 1,400 times in the past five years. Worker suicides were common at sites across the country, as were heart attacks, pregnancy complications and traumatic injuries. My The Observer scoop: theguardian.com/technology/art…

Today the Gov announced plans to sanction ‘unscrupulous employers hiring workers illegally’& ‘remove those caught working illegally’. This sends the message that this Labour Gov is more interested in immigration enforcement than protecting workers’ rights. AND it won’t work 1/3

As far-right mobs set fire to the Rotherham hotel, children and asylum seekers with disabilities were told to remain inside. Two asylum seekers said they had to put out some of the fires themselves. Most staff, meanwhile, were evacuated. theguardian.com/uk-news/articl…

Important in this report, particularly in light of the far-right racist riots, is data that reveals Belfast, Birkenhead, & cities like Stoke-on-Trent & Doncaster, are increasingly subjected to immigration raids but also that South Asian nationals make up 29% of those targetted⤵️

Since the Illegal Working Offence was introduced in 2016 there have been just 2 convictions. It does little but deter people from reporting exploitation. Migrant workers need routes to secure their immigration status to protect them from exploitation. theguardian.com/uk-news/articl…

The most terrifying summer on record for survivors of torture in the UK. One man was brutally attacked on his way to therapy with us. Other clients were racially abused on the streets - including a family with children. Many are still too scared to attend in-person therapy.
