Starting to prep for a lecture to our PCPs about the newest in heart disease prevention.
I'm trying to think outside the box here.
This seems like a good place to start.
Any other good resources?

Another Monday morning.
Time To Refocus:
Heart healthy diet- nuts, olive oil, vege's and fruit.
No processed food.
Alcohol just two days this week.
No red meat this week.
8,763 steps a day.
Find some sun.
I'll do my best-

Fish oil?
It's all about the EPA!

Treatment with icosapent ethyl (IPE) reduced risk of major adverse cardiovascular events by 25%.

The active ingredient of IPE, EPA, has shown beneficial activity at several points along the continuum, all of which contribute to the overall

Our bodies are sytematically designed for movement.
Our brains do not like a sedentary lifestyle.
Activity treats depression better than meds (not for everyone- but many).
Check out the bottom of this graph- AND MOVE!

Congrats. Nice work.
Wider spread Lp(a) is needed.
I'm doing a one-time screen on all my patients.

Given that an Lp(a) level of 175 mg/dL confers equivalent risk of ASCVD to that of genetically diagnosed FH- broadened Lp(a) testing may be justifiable.

Big Picture:
Benefits of statins outweigh the risks of a bump in glucose.

'The ADA standards of care for diabetes recommend that statin therapy should be initiated in individuals with diabetes and other cardiovascular risk factors.'

Always respect the ESH:
With BP- Age matters.

The ESH guidelines target BP <140/80 mm Hg for patients 65-79 years of age. For adults ≥80 years of age, the threshold is even more lenient, targeting SBP between 140 and 150 mm Hg.

We need help!!!

'long training and certification pathways, hyper-specialization, an aging population that is living longer and with multiple comorbidities, coupled with other factors like the increasing complexity of cardiovascular care, are among the leading pressures

More reasons to go plant based.

Tiny changes matter.

'every 3% of calories swapped for plant-based protein from animal-based options was linked to increased odds of avoiding declines in thinking skills , mental and physical health, type 2 diabetes and heart attacks.'

Take a statin and walk --> live YEARS longer.

'the combination of statin use and healthy lifestyles was significantly associated with a 30 % and 44 % lower risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in participants with high CVD risk compared with participants not taking

Obesity is going to be distant memory.

A matter of when...... not if.

'The plethora of efficacious obesity pharmacotherapies with different mechanisms of action will allow tailored treatment plans based on individual’s preference, comorbidities and treatment response.'

Statins prevent cardiovascular events the best because they prevent new atherosclerotic lesions.

The lesion that never happens can never cause a clinical event.

Know your LDL, ApoB and Lp(a)!

Great syncope review in Nature.
Hoping AI can help in the challenging landscape of my patients 'passing out'.
In a systematic review, Goh et al. expressed that machine J. Clin. Med. 2024, 13, 727 17 of 23 learning algorithms hold 88.8% sensitivity, 81.5% specificity, and an

KEY POINTS:

The clinical evidence in favor of apoB is now definitive!

ApoB is a more accurate marker of cardiovascular risk and the adequacy of lipid-lowering therapy than LDL-C or non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.
