Did you know that concussions can affect your ability to drive safely? 🚗🧠

📈 Take it Slow: If you've had a concussion, follow a gradual return-to-driving plan recommended by your healthcare provider to ease back into it safely.

An article entitled 'Danger in heading the ball' appeared in the Football League Review magazine of October 1966, where a club medic said the 'continual jarring of the brain tissue could and does affect players'.

Player retirement due to concussions. Sadly this may be the start of the journey we are now commonly seeing YET the game is suppose to have less force than riding a roller coaster. stuff.co.nz/sport/35026036…

Sadly more must lose and still no action or acknowledgement. Still interesting that impacts to head are reported to be only similar to jumping on a trampoline. Yet this happens. stuff.co.nz/nz-news/350260…

David Loane Colin Doherty Trinity College Dublin I don't know. Your politician from dept of sport didn't inspire confidence

Instead of adopting hugely successful approach of Scotland, UK, Aus and NZ seemed to favour each sport setting its own guidance.

Corruption driving (and slowing) important research & hurting people with dementia.
Conflicts of interest discussed in private and deemed 'not a problem'
Reminds me of the where lead researchers were paid by insurance companies and trial partially funded by DWP

Chris Nowinski, Ph.D. New Zealand Rugby Disgraceful behaviour from people in rugby more interested in $ than player welfare. Sam Peters book Concussed nails it. So far behind the USA it’s a joke. ARU and RFU as guilty. So sorry for the loss and trauma Billy and family went through,

Mo Fotuaika another who failed a HIA yesterday - appeared to show clear Category 1 signs of concussion (balance disturbance/motor incoordination).

Will likely miss next week as part of the 11 day stand down period within the NRL’s concussion protocol.

This is an accidental, but when the same accidents keep happening, you have to ask at what point it stops being one.

Changing kick-offs is a sticking plaster imho.

Changing tackling techniques, by lowering tackle height and punishing head-on-head, is the answer.

Thoughts with Mosese Suli who suffered a concussion just one tackle into his ANZAC Day game. Clear Category 1 signs.

The NRL introduced changes to the rulings around kickoff & drop outs this season - in part to encourage short kickoffs & hopefully reduce concussion risk.
