“It would be very different if I could do it here. I could have more time with the people who love me." Before Paola travelled alone to Dignitas to die, she recorded this important message.

I've seen loved ones suffer needlessly at the end of their life. I’ll never forget my Dad saying, “I don’t want that to happen to me”. That’s why I support Dignity in Dying. And why I'm entering the private member's bill ballot today with an Assisted Dying Bill

"We really should be listening to the people who are actually affected by the law.” Maddie would take comfort from having the choice of assisted dying in the last few months of her life.

As a country we have a long and proud history of providing free and compassionate healthcare. Forcing people to travel abroad and pay thousands of pounds for a dignified death is cruel and wrong. Dying people deserve high quality end-of-life care & the choice of assisted dying.

Paola died alone at Dignitas in March. She wanted to die in the UK but our blanket ban on assisted dying robbed her of this choice. She was an incredible person who selflessly spent some of her final moments fighting for change.

Happy to have made the Private Members’ Bill ballot. Subject to procedure and those ahead of me, I’ve made it clear that my first preference for a bill would be to reform our archaic assisted dying laws, working with Dignity in Dying and others. The time has come.

Zoe faced hours of police questioning over her mother’s death and was left feeling like a criminal. “No one should be criminalised for wanting our loved ones to have a worthy and comfortable death. We are simply saying, give people choice."

Joy was horrified when her mother was charged with the murder and manslaughter of her husband Dennis, after he ended his own life at home while dying of bowel cancer. Mavis, who had attempted to overdose at the same time, was resuscitated and later charged.

I’m determined to ensure the issue of assisted dying is given Parliamentary time - one way or another. Coverage in ⁦The Times and The Sunday Times⁩ on assisted dying and my selection from the Private Members’ Bill Ballot. thetimes.com/article/76810c…

“By the time you watch this I will have died.” Paola wanted to die in the UK but our blanket ban on assisted dying robbed her of this choice. Shortly before she was forced to travel abroad to die on her own terms, she sat down with Rankin to create this short film.

People from all walks of life support assisted dying. Some want the choice for themselves, whilst many campaign on behalf of a loved one. #YesToDignity

The UK is ready for a law that doesn’t criminalise compassion or force dying people into dangerous, lonely deaths behind closed doors. Westminster must listen to the British people. #YesToDignity

Paola died alone at Dignitas in March. She knew she was facing a painful death and desperately wanted to choose a more peaceful, less painful way to go. But Britain's blanket ban on assisted dying robbed her of that choice. Her friend Kate campaigns for change in her memory.
