The first thing I did when I became a principal was paint over the marker depicting the Principal's Parking Spot. I am no better than anyone else on our campus, and thus, do not need a special parking spot.

I observed a Spanish class where the teacher implemented a STOP signal with her students. When a student began to lose their comprehension of what was being said, they made the STOP symbol. The teacher could then stop, quickly review, and the student didn't lose interest.

One of my primary teachers began on Day 1 teaching her students how to respond to her and other students in English, Spanish, and Sign. Lucky students.

I was in a principal’s office yesterday when a student came in to propose a plan for peer tutoring in light of a loss of funding for after school tutoring. That fires me up on multiple levels. I love the student leadership and initiative! I love that the principal LISTENED!

23 years ago, a student ran into my classroom to tell me about the first plane hitting the tower. I immediately turned on the TV in my classroom. That became my lesson plan for the day. Sometimes major events transcend our content. Listen to our students.
